Shennongjia Airport (Chinese: 神农架机场) is an airport currently under construction in Shennongjia, a forestry district in western Hubei Province, China. It is located in the town of Hongping. Construction started in April 2011 with a total investment of over 1 billion yuan.[1] At an elevation of 2,580 meters above sea level, Shennongjia Airport will be the highest airport in China outside of the Tibetan Plateau.[2]
The airport will have one runway that is 2,800 meters long and 45 meters wide, and a 3,000 square-meter terminal building. It is projected to handle 250,000 passengers annually by 2020.[1]
